Workshop Sunday 19th
9:45 - 11:45
Venue: Zodiak, B2
Carl Annala & Andrew Anderson

My Ankoku Butoh comes from the dark, natural world of the rainforests and coastlines of the Pacific Northwest. As my dance practice and performance has crossover with my fine art practice, students can expect to learn some drawing techniques that can enhance their butoh fu. Please bring pens and a notebook or drawing pad.
Prepare to commune with the dirt, the sea, the rainforest and the creatures that lie within.
Carl Annala is a painter, musician and a butoh dancer with 28 years of experience living in Portland Oregon. He is the founder and Artistic Director of Ash Pillar Butoh and the Northwest Butoh Festival.
Andrew Anderson, based in Portland OR, creates sound pieces out of carefully curated field recordings, hidden samples, destroyed tape, and various instruments, both electronic and analog, with a focus on quiet repetition, drone, and patient change. He will provide live music for this workshop.
